아쿠타가와 류노스케
갓파 ― 아쿠타가와 류노스케 원작・웨이소설판 ― 도쿄 교외의 한 정신병원. 환자 23호는 찾아오는 사람 누구에게나 같은 이야기를 들려준다. 삼 년 전 여름, 안개 낀 가미코치 계곡에서 갓파 한 마리를 쫓다가 깊은 구멍으로 떨어졌다는 이야기. 그리고 눈을 떠 보니, 그곳은 갓파들의 나라였다는 이야기. 태어날지 말지를 배 속의 아이에게 묻는 부모. 실업한 직공을 고기로 만들어 먹는 공장. 사랑하는 암컷에게 쫓겨 다니는 수컷들. 인간이 진지하게 여기는 것을 비웃고, 인간이 웃는 것을 진지하게 여기는 이상한 나라. 웃기고, 기묘하고, 끝내 서늘해지는 이야기. 아쿠타가와가 세상을 떠나기 다섯 달 전에 남긴 마지막 풍자를, 새 삽화와 함께 다시 읽는다.
