The Waning Moon

Synopsis

On a summer day when their salary is delayed and debts are piling up, Seong-ho, his wife, and their young son Mun-hwan leave their home to escape from creditors. "The New Moon" follows the footsteps of this family over the course of a day, delicately portraying the impoverished lives and anxieties of small-town citizens during the colonial era. They briefly regain their smiles with the salary they have finally received, but that peace does not last long. This work quietly and profoundly illustrates the pride that refuses to crumble even in poverty and the deep affection for family, making it a significant piece of modern Korean literature.
